Spread along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana and Mississippi, the Louisiana Division of the United States Fencing Association experienced a difficult year after the twin catastrophes of Katrina and Rita in August of 2005. Fencing in the Greater New Orleans area is making a slow recovery and the fencing clubs in southern Mississippi have all but vanished. Our hopes and prayers have gone and still go with those of us who have relocated elsewhere in the nation and those who are painstakingly rebuilding their homes and their lives in Louisiana and Mississippi, and we hope that fencing will return along with normality and prosperity to those areas of our division that were ravaged by the wind and the water. Additionally, we who remain appreciate the help that we have received from the United States Fencing Association toward rebuilding our division and our clubs.
